Philosophy

The philosophy of Te Kura o Kokohuia is Te Tunga Ahurei.

School Philosophy

Te Tunga Ahurei is a philosophy that is about ‘The Kokohuia way, Kokohuia beliefs, the Kokohuia unique stance’.

Today Te Tunga Ahurei is our kūmete mōhio containing the following components:

Te Arapikinga ki ngā taonga tuku iho

‘Me hoki ki ngā paiaka...’ – Nā Rangitihi Tahuparae

These outline a number of cultural competencies/ traditional knowledge and skills that tauira should be taught and/ or exposed to. This is returning back to our Māori rootstock.  Access to Māori cognition by utilising traditional knowledge, skills and customs, practises, values, beliefs, attitudes as the foundation, to view the rest of the world.

Kaupapa Atua

The Te Kura o Kokohuia planning process:  Kaupapa Atua is the kura three year plan that provides the Atua foci across 4 terms. Within each atua is a range of kaupapa covering the nine curriculum learning areas in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Eg: Pūtaiao, Tīkanga ā Iwi, Hauora, Toi, Te Reo Māori, Pāngarau, Hāngarau, Te Reo Pākehā.

Rere Runga Rawa

A self-directed learning process where students acquire knowledge and skills to facilitate their own learning.  Taking responsibility for their own behaviour.

Kura-ā-Waho

This is an authentic learning approach for tauira to develop relationships with local, national and international marae, and the environment.

Pūrongo

A unique way of informing mātua and caregivers about the progress of their tamaiti aligned to Te Arapikinga ki ngā Taonga tuku iho.

By working together as a whānau, we believe the graduates of our kura will be
