A different class each week has the opportunity to run Hui-a-Kura where they present class merits, certificates and announce any panui. Whanau are always welcome to join us. Absence/ Late arrivalsYou are required to contact the kura before 8.50am if your tamaiti will be absent. All late arrivals are to report to the office for a late slip before attending class. AccidentsThe class pouako, duty pouako or Tangata Manaaki tends to any accidents in the playground or classroom involving possible injury to a tamaiti. Appropriate treatment will be sought immediately and matua contacted in serious circumstances. Annual Cultural & Inter-kura Activities
Breakfast in SchoolsTauira are provided with a healthy breakfast 5 days a week from 8.15am to 8.50am for those who chose to partake. (Kindly provided by the Kickstart Breakfast programme). If you're keen to volunteer in preparing breakfast, contact our office to make enquiries. Civil DefenceIn the case of a Civil Defence emergency, the usual evacuation procedures will be carried out and all tamariki will remain at kura until wh?nau can be contacted and then able to collect them. Fruit in SchoolsAs part of the Fruit In Schools programme, we receive fresh fruit throughout the year to distribute to all of our tauira in Poutahi, Pourua and Poutoru. Healthy Lunches in SchoolsThis initiative kicked off mid-term in March 2021. Kimiora Trust is currently providing healthy options to all our tauira daily with regular review now underway. Together with the provider, we work towards a menu that is both healthy and sustainable, while addressing the taste buds of our many hungry learners. Mahi AhureaThe Mahi Ahurea programme is part of the curriculum here at Te Kura o Kokohuia for all tauira from Tau 1-13. Mahi Ahurea is delivered by an external provider, on a weekly basis. It is instructed within a contemporary context using such methods as mau rakau, poi, aka and kohi kai. Medical ProblemsWhen enrolling your tamaiti, please ensure that the pouako and the kura are fully aware of any specific medical conditions your tamaiti may have. If medication is required during kura hours, please sign the consent form and discuss with the pouako responsible for your tamaiti. Milk for SchoolsFree milk is provided three days a week (kindly provided by the Milk for Schools programme). PurongoKura reports/purongo are distributed in Term Two and Term Four and are held in conjunction with matua/pouako conferences. We maintain an open door policy at all times and whanau are welcome at kura anytime. Kura PanuiKura panui are sent every Thursday. Please advise on enrolment which distribution method you prefer either hardcopy or email. Special p?nui are sent home with the tauira as required. Kura StationeryStationery lists will be distributed at the beginning of the year and at the time of enrolment for new tauira starting in Tau 1. Kura TransportThe kura operates a bus service to collect tamariki from their home in the morning and return in the afternoon. Whaea Julie is our bus driver and the bus collects tamariki from all suburbs of Whanganui within the city limits. Due to space on the bus, you may need to negotiate based on availability through contacting the office. SmokefreeTe Kura o Kokohuia is proud to be a smoke-free/ vape-free kura which means that our kura is Auahi Kore within our kura buildings and grounds. We encourage whanau not to smoke directly outside our kura gates or within sight of our tamariki. There is also no smoking when accompanying our kura on trips, outings or tangihanga. Sporting ActivitiesBeing actively involved in sports is encouraged at Te Kura o Kokohuia. We currently have teams in the following winter codes: - Netball, Miniball, Basketball, Rippa Rugby and Rugby for boys and girls. Many of the codes on offer are dependant on coach availability. Whanau are encouraged to get involved. Sports Fees$20 per tauira for all sports that they register to play for the year. $30 per whanau, per year for siblings who live in the same household and play for Te Kura o Kokohuia. Sports UniformsThe kura provides the team sports uniforms. These uniforms are to be worn with pride when attending all kura sports events. SwimmingOur pouako provide tuition on basic swimming strokes and safe practices in and around water during the warmer months. It is important that tamariki come prepared for lessons with towel and appropriate swimwear. Please send a note if your tamaiti is unable to swim. UniformsIt is compulsory for all tauira to be wearing the correct uniform each and every day. Please ensure to name all clothing and footwear. Tamariki must wear a wide brim hat at playtime and lunchtime during term one and term four. These will be available for purchase at our office. |
